Hannah and Tristeon's Intimate Ouray Colorado Elopement
Hannah and Tristeon are a sweet, quiet couple. From the beginning, they knew a big traditional wedding simply wasn’t for them. They didn’t want to spend their wedding day at the center of attention, following a rigid timeline or feeling like they were putting on a show for their guests. And the idea of standing in front of a crowd to share vows that felt deeply personal and private just didn’t feel right. When they decided to elope instead, there was a sense of relief. Suddenly, they could create a wedding day that actually felt like them: quiet, meaningful and centered entirely around the two of them. And a Ouray elopement, surrounded by the rugged beauty of Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, felt like the perfect way to do it.
Planning a San Juan Mountains Elopement That Felt Like Them
When Hannah and Tristeon first reached out to me, they knew how they wanted their elopement to feel, but they weren’t quite sure how to make it happen. They wanted time together without rushing. They wanted privacy without needing to hike for miles to find it. They wanted to say their vows somewhere beautiful enough to feel worthy of the commitment they were making to one another. Most importantly, they wanted their wedding day to feel easy and unpressured.
So we started there. I listened to what mattered to them and helped them turn those ideas into a simple, intimate four-hour San Juan Mountains elopement near Ouray.
Getting Ready in the Mountains
Hannah and Tristeon chose to get dressed at their Airbnb, but rather than finishing the getting-ready process indoors, they wanted those final moments to happen outside, surrounded by the mountains. I helped them choose a location near Ouray that gave them exactly what they were looking for: extraordinary mountain views without requiring a hike, enough privacy to let the day feel intimate, and beautiful light as the sun began to drop behind the peaks. There was nowhere they needed to rush off to next. No guests waiting for the ceremony to begin. No schedule dictating how long a moment could last. Just the two of them and the mountains.
Private Vows at Sunset
After a few quiet portraits together, Hannah and Tristeon found their place among the mountains and shared their vows. The setting sun softened the landscape around them as they spoke words meant only for one another. There was no audience and no performance, just two people promising their lives to each other in the stillness of the San Juan Mountains. It was exactly what they had wanted their wedding ceremony to be: private, intentional and completely their own.
Pizza, Beer and a Colorado Sunset
After their vows and a few more portraits, Hannah and Tristeon celebrated in a way that felt just as personal as the rest of their day: with pizza and beer. It was something they had shared throughout their relationship, a simple tradition that had become part of their story together. And instead of replacing it with something that felt more traditionally “wedding,” they brought that piece of themselves into their elopement day. As evening settled over the mountains, the sky began to turn pink. We finished their Ouray elopement beneath a glowing San Juan Mountains sky, creating some of my favorite portraits of the evening and giving Hannah and Tristeon one last quiet moment together before we called it a night.
Their entire elopement lasted just four hours.
But it never felt rushed.
There was time to get ready, time to explore, time for portraits, time to say meaningful vows and even time to sit together with pizza and beer while the sun disappeared behind the mountains. Because an elopement doesn’t have to be an elaborate adventure to be meaningful.
Sometimes, the perfect San Juan Mountains elopement is simply a few unhurried hours in a beautiful place with the person you love, without an audience, without the pressure and without anything that doesn’t feel like you.
