You have been dreaming of saying your vows in the solitude of the mountains...

You know the mountains are more than just a backdrop for your vows. When you’re there, you feel the stillness, the quiet, and the sense that this is exactly where you’re meant to promise yourselves to one another. Just the two of you (and maybe your pup). No pressure, no distractions, just the beauty of the mountains and the commitment you’re making.

With rugged peaks all around you, lush alpine meadows, azure-blue lakes, and waterfalls around every bend, the San Juan Mountains are the perfect place to begin your next chapter together. But it’s not just the beauty of the landscape, it’s the significance woven into every part of the experience.

From the posh charm of Telluride to the laid-back mountain-town vibe of Ouray and the rugged spirit of Silverton, the San Juans have so much to offer.  Hike to stunning alpine basins, soak in natural hot springs, or take jeep roads to places that make you wonder, “How is this even real?”

And at the heart of it all is a day intentionally created for the two of you, honest, meaningful, and entirely your own.

Hi I'm Betsy!

I am so excited you are here! The San Juan Mountains are home to me. In some of the hardest moments of my life, they became a place of healing for me. Photography grew from that connection, first with landscapes and now with intimate weddings and elopements. Your vows here become something more in the deep quiet of the mountains. In the rugged, vastness, there is a reverence which makes these mountains one of the most breathtaking places in Colorado to start your next chapter together.

WANT TO GET STARTED? LET'S CHAT!

Now I help couples elope in a way that is true to them in the places that I love.

I have the privilege of guiding couples like you into these beautiful mountains where you can be fully present in the moment, and surrounded in beauty. I love being able to bring couples into these places that feel like home and into this deep quiet to be witness to the beginning of their lives together.

I believe my job as an elopement photographer is so much more than showing up with a camera. Of course I'm going to capture the story of your day with all the joy, the tears and the quiet moments that have meaning. But I'm also going to use all of my local knowledge to guide and craft your elopement day in the San Juan Mountains, so you can soak in their wild, breathtaking beauty and stay fully present with each other, without the weight of planning or stress.

You deserve to say your vows in a place that feels right to you and to work with someone who understands the importance of the day.

I'll bring you to that perfect spot to say your vows

Whether you’re dreaming of a meadow filled with wildflowers, a dramatic mountain overlook, or a quiet, secluded alpine lake surrounded by rugged peaks, I have so many incredible places I can’t wait to bring you to. Each setting offers its own kind of stillness and beauty, allowing you to step into a space that feels personal, and deeply connected to the moment you’re in together. Because where you say your vows becomes part of their meaning, shaping the emotion and memory of the commitment you’re making to one another in a way that feels right and true.

I'll help with all the logistics and planning

Because you’ve never planned an elopement before and honestly, why spend your time sorting through endless Google searches? I’m here to make the process effortless for you. I have curated lists of incredible vendors I trust, along with restaurant and lodging recommendations that fit both your vision in the mountains. I also love hopping on Zoom calls with you to really get to know you both, hear your story, and understand what matters most to you. From there, I help shape a day that feels connected to your vision, and true to you, so you can have the day you have dreamt about.

I’ll capture the full story of your day, exactly as it felt.

In my work, I strive to capture not only how your day looked, but how it felt. I’m drawn to the meaning and emotion woven into each moment; the quiet reverence of your vows, and the way the mountains hold both stillness and grandeur around you. I believe the day is made up of small moments within vast landscapes, and I photograph both with equal intention: the beauty of the details, your rings, florals, the lace of the dress, the boutonniere, alongside the scale and drama of the mountains that surround you. So you can remember not only how it looked but how it felt.

Where to Elope in the San Juan Mountains

The San Juan Mountains have so much to offer from the dramatic mountain basins of Silverton to the posh ski-resort vibes of Telluride you cannot go wrong choosing to elope here.   These are my favorite places for an elopement in the San Juan Mountains:

Alta Lakes/Gold King Basin:

With rugged peaks all around you and alpine lakes as your backdrop there are few places more dramatic and more secluded. A rustic cabin is available at Alta Lakes for lodging for the right couple, or rent a jeep and head up this 4WD backroad for breathtaking views and quiet seclusion.

Yankee Boy Basin:

Outside of Ouray, this magnificent basin is covered in wildflowers in late July and has a waterfall that is so dreamy making it one of my all time favorite locations to capture you vows. It's perfect for a picnic and exploring and is magnificent at sunset with the alpenglow.

Molas Pass:

With incredible views of the Grenadier range and dramatic perfect light for both sunset and sunrise this spot is hard to beat. Molas Lake is beautiful all year round and can be accessed even in spring when much of the San Juans are inaccessible due to snow.

When to elope in the San Juan Mountains

Trust me when I say the San Juan Mountains are beautiful all year round, but there are seasons in these mountains where they are so beautiful you truly can't wrap your head around it.

Summer:

In the summer the meadows explode with wildflowers. There are places where the wildflowers will grow up to your shoulders, purple and white and yellow. The lupine bloom in mid June and early July, the paintbrush can be all colors ranging from deep magenta to almost white in July. It is incredible to stand in them and feel that deep solitude and beauty. By August most wildflowers are starting to fade making this a short season in the high country. If you want a summer elopement plan ahead and be ready to have your breath taken away!

Fall:

There is nothing more magnificent than fall in Colorado. Entire mountainsides turn gold with the changing of the aspen leaves. Much of the summer tourism slows down and the quiet you find in the meadows is soul healing. The basins that have lakes often have fog and mist in the cool mornings making dreamy conditions for your vows. The days are warm and lazy with softer light. And since sunset happens early it's easier to get to dinner and to the hot springs for a soothing soak at night.

Winter:

Like a snow globe the San Juan Mountains in winter have such a rugged beauty. Waterfalls can be frozen, ski resorts are in full swing, cozy cabin vibes can be had with firepits and hot cocoa. There are still spots in winter that are easily accessible and can have dreamy,  light for sunset pics.  You will most likely find places all to yourself. Winter is a perfect time in the San Juans if you love the cold and want that dreamy wintertime vibe.
